I listened to this album again and again, but I don’t know why I feel that something is missing here. Seal is one of the greatest melody maker that I’ve ever heard and it’s good to know he didn’t loose his touch with System which has more consistent melodies than Seal IV. The album starts with the song “ If It's In My Mind, It's On My Face “, which is a great song with powerful melody, Seal’s voice is really good even if I think that he doesn't need all that reverb FX in his voice, we lost the intimate side that we had in the previous albums, and I do think that it’s not so beautiful when he push his voice on the limit in the middle of the song around 2:48, but over all this is a great song... I do appreciate Dance music even if it’s not my favorite kind but I just don’t like the Stuart Price commercial approach of dance. I don’t feel that we have the real dance culture here compare to “Killer”, Seal is not Madonna and you can not just copy and paste the previous work you’ve done with her and apply it to a great singer like Seal. He doesn't need to have dance hits songs to move people, he’s got already a great voice and powerful abilities to write great stuff. I will probably do not listen to this song in the next few months because of the kind of club remixes production that you can only find on CD singles as bonus tracks. You just don’t want to listen to these kind of songs when you’re at home and relax, I'm not wrongfully criticizing, but the point that I'm trying to bring out here is that this can be a classic song with a different production approach. I could exactly say the same for “Amazing “, great lyrics and melody but a bonus track production. “Just like before”, a good song but not the most inspired, I like vocal's effects in this one. “ Loaded ”, a great song and lyrics, powerful melody, the bass line and the chords remind me another great Seal’s song : “ The beginning “ in the first album but without the same great Trevor Horn's class production. “ Wedding day ”, yes I know Heidi klum is not Joni Mitchell, but you have a kind of emotion on this track but it’s quite strange because it sound a little bit shallow. “ System ” is a real strange title for this album, it will fit more with Seal’s first album topics. With this album, Seal is in the middle of the system than ever before with all that it represent, the dance music, the tabloid. If not, this is another great song and melody and I love the kind of rock feeling into it. “ Dumb ”, not my favorite, especially with the cheap snare in the middle of the song and again all the reverb FX in Seal's voice is not appropriate even if I like the lyrics. “ The right life ”, a good dance song in his genre and a potential hit, I love the melody and the vocals FX but you’ve already know what I think of the production of Stuart Price. “ Rolling ”, great song but I imagine this one with the Trevor Horn's great production like “Kiss from a rose”, I miss the medieval flair of Ann Dundley string arrangement. “ Immaculate ”, the best song of the album, Stuart did a great job on this one. Seal has a great voice but Trevor Horn always create a perfect mood around his voice, sometimes intriguing, you can understand it very easily when listening to the songs “Colour” and “Still remains” on Human being album which remains for me the best example of creating atmosphere around a voice. This is the only song in the System album with such a work. As a conclusion, I will say this is a good album, it’s far more better than Seal IV, but it don’t have that timeless and classic album feeling of the first three ones. I will let you know if I can still listen to it for the next few months like I was listening to the first three ones years after years.
