Seal I Album Review

This Album is the crossroad of different world. The world of an incredible songwriter with an amazing voice and the one of Trevor horn (Art of noise, Propaganda, Malcom Mc Laren, Frankie goes to Hollywood....)

If everyone can notice the powerful of Seal's Melodies, I would like to point out the performance of the vocals in which Seal did a quite amazing job. His voice can have a really depth but Seal have the ability to reach the highest notes compare to the deepest of his voice, so he can easily create a mood variation to his song. you can notice it in Whirlpool.

The song "The begining" represent very well this association. A mix between two extreme, in one part the modern instrumental arrangement which sound really sequenced and pattern oriented who create a unique environment and at the other part the rootsy Seal's voice and melody.

Most of the time in this album, Seal's voice is really wild , and his typical vocal harmonies reminds me one in the Yoruba's Music (Nigerian ethny)

Another particularity in this Album is the role of the bass. Most of the time it will keep one sequenced groove line and all the other instruments will floating around. You can notice it in "Future Love Paradise, Crazy, Deep Water, Killer, The begining, Wild.

You can notice the job of the strings who tends to create a atmosphere who fits perfectly with Seal's Voice. Anne Dudley arrangement become a model to create such environment. Trevor Horn add a lot of synth textures and sampler to these strings to create a unique climat to Seal's Music.
The transition between the first and the second part in "Deep water" illustrate this texture job, the intro of "Crazy", Killer, the choir of Wendy and Lisa in Whirlpool.

What an incredible debut. What's great about this album is that it shows the from A to Z all the diversity of the Artist, from Dance to Rock, to Ballad, everything is represented in this one but without betrayed the songs. And finally, all these styles are made into the artist's own sound. A stunning debut that showcases the various talents of its performer.

Seal Revisited Note : 8/10
